What is Romex?

Romex is a cable brand used for electrical wiring in buildings. It is a type of NM cable, which stands for a non-metallic sheathed cable. Romex comprises two or more insulated wires inside a plastic sheath. The wires are twisted together and then covered with a metal strip. This metal strip helps to protect the insulation from damage. Romex is typically used for indoor wiring, although it can be used outdoors if protected from the elements.

How do I make a Romex connection?

When wiring a new electrical circuit, you need to make a Romex connection. This common type of connection uses two metal wires and a plastic connector. The connector is inserted into the hole in the wire nut and then twisted to secure it in place. You can use this connection for both 120-volt and 240-volt circuits.

When connecting the Romex to the outlet box, ensure the wires are in the correct order: black, white, and green. The black wire is always hot and should be connected to the brass screw on the outlet box. The white wire is always neutral and should be connected to the silver screw on the outlet box. Finally, the green wire is always ground and should be connected to the green screw on the outlet box (or to the grounding screw on an electrical cover plate).
